What makes a monitor a luxury object?

Luxury is not a price. For a display it means a small collection, panels chosen for how they render light, restraint in form, honest numbers and a considered way of selling. Our definition.

Nocturne 49 seen from the right

There are expensive monitors, and there are luxury monitors. The first is a matter of price. The second is a matter of intent. This is how we define the difference at Alter Ego.

1. A small collection

Luxury houses edit. They make fewer things and stand behind each one. Collection I has four references. Each covers a distinct way of working: a 49-inch QD-OLED flagship, a 27-inch OLED, a 5K2K canvas for image makers and a 5K ultrawide in two finishes. Nothing in the collection exists to fill a price point.

2. Panels chosen for how they render light

The panel is the movement of a display. We choose ours for the qualities you notice every day: the true black and 0.03 ms response of OLED in Nocturne 49 and Solitaire 27, and the 5120 × 2160 resolution and 99% DCI-P3 coverage of Atelier 40.

3. Restraint in form

A luxury object does not shout. Our displays come in two finishes, ink black and ivory, with a single wordmark printed beneath the panel and nothing else on the front. The picture is the only thing that asks for attention.

4. Beautiful when it is off

A display is switched off for a large part of its life, and it is still on your desk. Its back, its stand and its profile are seen by everyone who walks into the room. We photograph and present every reference from behind and in profile as carefully as from the front.

5. Honest numbers

Luxury is incompatible with exaggeration. We publish figures from the panel specification, label typical values as typical and peak values as peak, and name the measurement behind every response time. Here is how to read them.

6. A considered way of selling

Luxury goods are not piled on pallets and discounted. Every Alter Ego reference is released in limited, numbered allocations, offered first to clients on the list. Why we work this way.

7. A relationship after the sale

Every request is handled by an advisor, who stays your point of contact for questions and warranty service.

The short answer

A luxury monitor is one made in a small collection, built around an exceptional panel, restrained in form, honest in its numbers and sold with care. That is the standard Alter Ego is built to.
