Why ink and ivory

Alter Ego displays come in two finishes only: Noir, an ink black, and Blanc, an ivory. Why we limited ourselves to two, and why these two.

Horizon 49 Blanc at an angle

Every Alter Ego display is finished in one of two colours. We chose to limit ourselves to two because a display is not a fashion accessory you change each season. It is an object that sits in a room for years, so its colour has to work with the room, not with a trend.

Ink

Our black is an ink: deep, slightly warm, and matte. It is the colour of a display that wants to disappear. When the picture is on, an ink frame vanishes into the edge of your vision and leaves only the image. When the display is off, it reads as a calm dark plane. Ink suits evening rooms, dark woods, leather, and anyone who works late.

Ivory

Our white is an ivory rather than a bright, clinical white. It is softer against plaster, stone, pale timber and linen, and it does not glare in daylight. On Horizon 49 Blanc, the ivory continues all the way around the back, so the display looks considered from every side of a room.

Why not more colours

Each additional finish divides attention and multiplies compromise. Two lets us get both exactly right, and gives every room an answer: one colour that recedes, one that belongs. Noir or Blanc: choosing a finish.

The signature on each

On ink, the wordmark is printed in champagne. On ivory, it is a warm grey. In both cases it is the only mark on the front of the display.
