Viewing distance calculator: how far to sit from your monitor
Find the distance at which individual pixels disappear, and how much of your field of view a monitor fills at your seating distance.

The two numbers that matter
- Pixel-resolution distance. A person with 20/20 vision can resolve detail down to about one arcminute. Beyond roughly 3438 ÷ PPI inches, individual pixels can no longer be distinguished. For a 109 PPI display, that is about 80 cm.
- Field of view. How wide an angle the screen fills at your seating distance. Around 30–40° suits focused work on a single screen; wide 32:9 displays are designed to fill much more, often 70° and above, for immersion.
Practical starting points
- 27-inch QHD, like Solitaire 27: about 60–80 cm.
- 40-inch 5K2K, like Atelier 40: about 70–90 cm.
- 49-inch 32:9, like Nocturne 49 and Horizon 49: about 70–90 cm, with the curve keeping the edges in view.
